What to Expect
The Tesla Display Team is seeking a Senior Display Mechanical Engineer based at Tesla Korea Office to lead mechanical design and development of automotive display modules for Tesla vehicles. This engineer will work directly with display vendors on display housing, bezel, mounting, and thermal management design at the component and system level. The role serves as a focal point between Design Studio, Product Engineering, Hardware, Software, Global Supply Management, Supplier Industrialization, Reliability, Tesla factory, and display suppliers — managing all mechanical engineering activities from initial concept through mass production.
What You’ll Do
- Lead mechanical design of automotive display modules including housing, bezel, cover glass, mounting bracket, and heat dissipation structures.
- Collaborate directly with display vendors on module-level mechanical integration, DFM reviews, and tooling development.
- Perform tolerance stack-up analysis, FEA, and design optimization for automotive environmental requirements.
- Develop and maintain 3D CAD models and 2D production drawings with GD&T.
- Design gasket/seal solutions, thermal interface materials, and display stack-up configurations for automotive-grade reliability.
- Support prototype builds, component fabrication, testing, and validation — provide hands-on support and data analysis.
- Drive cross-functional design reviews with Design Studio, Product Engineering, Optical, Electrical, Firmware, and Reliability engineering teams.
- Conduct DFM reviews with suppliers for injection molded, sheet metal stamping, die cast, and extruded components.
- Support development of mechanical reliability test plans and troubleshoot design issues.
- Coordinate with US headquarters engineering team on design standards, specifications, and program milestones.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- 7–15 years of experience in mechanical design engineering, with a minimum of 3 years in automotive display or automotive electronics module design.
- Direct experience with automotive display module mechanical design — housing, bezel, mounting, thermal management.
- Experience collaborating with display manufacturers on module-level mechanical integration.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD, tolerance analysis, GD&T, and FEA tools.
- Hands-on experience with DFM for injection molding, sheet metal stamping, die casting, and CNC machining.
- Understanding of automotive environmental specifications and reliability standards.
- Experience taking designs from initial concept through NPI phases to mass production.
- Proficiency in Korean and English (written and verbal) for vendor and headquarters communication.
- Willingness to relocate to the United States after approximately one year of Korea assignment (L-visa sponsored by Tesla).
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience with OLED display module mechanical design and curved/flexible display integration.
-
Thermal simulation experience for display thermal management.
-
Display stack-up design including OCA/OCR bonding, gasket/seal, and moisture barrier solutions.
-
Experience with large-format automotive displays.
-
Knowledge of automotive Tier-1 supplier development processes.
-
Experience with DOE methodology and statistical analysis for design optimization.
