What to Expect

Join Tesla Energy's Product Engineering team and play a key role in ensuring the optimal performance of our fleet residential energy products. We’re looking for a degree-qualified, driven, motivated, and collaborative engineer to join us to help accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.

The team is looking for a Product Engineer to drive solutions to challenging technical problems related to large scale deployment of Tesla’s residential energy systems in Japan. The individual will need to become a product expert across Tesla’s range of residential energy systems and requirements. This role will require the individual to be the primary technical product resource for 3rd party Certified Installers of Tesla’s residential energy system as well as Tesla’s internal residential energy system deployment division. Additionally, this role will be a primary contributor to Product Management and Policy initiatives in Japan. You will dive deep into fleet-wide data, troubleshoot issues, and develop solutions to enhance the customer experience.

What You’ll Do

• Organize and develop strategies for solving all the biggest technical challenges that are barriers to large scale Powerwall deployments in Japan

• Act as the lead technical resource to ensure smooth product and feature launches, including assisting in obtaining JET certification and subsidy enablement

• Investigate and effectively communicate technical product requirements to the US based Product Management team

• Support escalated inquiries from 3rd party Certified Installers to complete Powerwall installation; Site Design, Installation, Grid approval process etc

• Support in developing strategies to establish Virtual Power Plants (VPP) in Japan including customer education and policy engagement

• Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and firmware issues impacting Tesla's Residential Energy customers.

• Determine the root cause of product failures and drive improvements through design, software/firmware, or manufacturing changes

• Review translated technical documentation in Japanese

What You’ll Bring

• Graduated with a degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering or a related field.

• Minimum 3+ years experience in an engineering / technical role

• Experience in renewable energy technologies (EVSEs, batteries, solar, etc.) preferred

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in both Japanese and English language required, especially the ability to convey critical information into key take-aways

• Self-driven and highly motivated in managing various initiatives and internal and external stakeholder to deliver new application outcomes.

• Collaborative, team oriented, and highly proficient at leading cross-functional projects

• Fast-moving and innately curious – driven to quickly learn, iterate, and improve

• A passion for sustainable energy
