Engineering Technician, Process, Cell Engineering

What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a highly motivated engineering technician who will play a crucial role in the development, operation, and maintenance of an advanced electrode and cell development line.
Battery Cells are the common denominator for every Tesla product. Our product requirements demand ground-up cell architectures with state-of-the-art performance, manufactured at volumes that are orders of magnitude higher than the products they power. Our environment is fast-paced and incredibly exciting, so being passionate and self-motivated to push your limits is critical. Our team works with engineering groups across various disciplines, requiring strong communication skills and a team-first mentality. You will work alongside seasoned industry experts, high aptitude recent graduates, and people from every stage in between. We look for anyone with an exceptional ability to solve problems in both individual and team settings.
What You’ll Do
- Lead the operation of electrode and cell assembly equipment to produce and test state-of-the-art prototype battery cells
- Carefully document critical build process parameters and quality control metrics, and perform analysis as needed
- Perform regular equipment inspections before and after running the equipment; work closely with equipment team to achieve optimal overall equipment efficiency
- Perform build QC on all electrodes and cells – this will include building and testing half-cell coin cells and running other electrochemical diagnostic techniques
- Provide feedback on existing SOPs and assist the process and equipment engineering teams to write new SOPs
- Diagnose cell build issues and equipment failures - root cause and communicate required actions between the equipment and process engineering teams
- Perform minor equipment repairs, rebuilds, and installations, and coordinate with equipment team for major repairs
What You’ll Bring

Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Physics, Engineering or equivalent experience

Passion for making fantastic new products and using data as a means to achieve outstanding quality, reliability, and production excellence

Ability to analyze problems associated with processing challenges and equipment fault conditions, identify root causes, and quickly implement reliable long-term solutions

Careful attention to detail and ability to clearly communicate results and challenges to engineering team

Experience with slurry mixing, roll-to-roll coating/pressing/slitting, with micron-scale precision, and cell assembly is a plus
-
Experience building and testing Li-ion coin and pouch cells with Arbin, Neware, Biologic, and/or Gamry is a plus

Experience with design of experiments is a plus

Expected Compensation

$24.40 - $56.40/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
