Tesla’s Drive Unit and Drive Inverter Test teams are looking for skilled and motivated Test Technicians. The teams’ missions are to validate lifetime, reliability and safety performance of inverters, stators, and drive units against requirements and standards. The team thus contributes to design and product validations. It's an exciting work environment with plenty of engineering resources and bright colleagues to collaborate with. What You’ll Do
- Perform drive unit and inverter tests independently using specialized equipment, fixtures, (environmental) test chambers and data loggers and according to SOPs and internal standards.
- Perform test preparation activities (e.g. instrumentation, setup of rigs).
- Perform destructive teardowns for analysis.
- Assess and document results comprehensively with precise attention to measurements and observations.
- Perform hands-on troubleshooting, debugging, and failure analysis of components using tools like digital microscopes, multi-meters.
- Fabricate and modify parts for test rigs and prototypes.
- Collaborate closely with engineers and technicians to deliver test results and maximize equipment uptime.
- Own organizational tasks & responsibilities like creation & maintenance of procedures, SOPs, standards, equipment, inspections, lab commissioning, facilities, maintenance and staff trainings.
- Role requires to work with high-voltage, hazardous material and hazardous energies using mandated PPE and procedures and to set up and perform tests in person and in lab environments.

What You’ll Bring

Completed German vocational training (Berufsausbildung) or recognized equivalent education in Mechatronics, Electronics, Electrician, Industrial Mechanik, Automation or Maintenance or comparable technical and craftsmanship education.

Excellent hands-on skills with tools (including soldering), common power tools and machine shop equipment, and electrical/electronic equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies).

Exceptional electromechanical aptitude with ability to disassemble and reassemble complex equipment with little instruction.

Strong computer skills and ability to learn new software.

Ability to adapt to a constantly changing environment with new technologies, equipment and processes.

~2 years of hands-on experience with electromechanical testing, troubleshooting and failure analysis.

Additional Preferred Skills
-
Basic familiarity with German Standards for Electronics and Electricity is a plus.

Willingness to develop skills and take responsibility as Elektrofachkraft is a plus.

Experience with mechanical cross-sectioning, polishing, and optical microscopy is a plus.
