Dyno Test Engineer, Reliability & Test

Tesla is building a world powered by solar energy, stored in batteries, and transported by electric vehicles. In this pursuit, we are building a technically strong, motivated, and fast-moving engineering team which prides itself on superior execution.
The Reliability & Test Engineering Team is responsible for verifying and validating the thermal, electrical, and mechanical reliability of components and systems throughout our product line. Our team also supports field failure investigations and manufacturing change control. We are seeking a multi-faceted Sr. Test Engineer to support our North America dyno test operations. He/she will be responsible for all aspects of test execution, monitoring and reporting key findings on validation, durability, field failure investigations, and manufacturing change control tests.
What You’ll Do
- Execute reliability testing with various drive unit programs, ensure timely execution of tests
- Maintain high dyno test uptime and responsible for proper routine maintenance
- Oversee and assist with the set-up and execution of thermal, electrical, and mechanical tests
- Coordinate test demands to meet the needs of multiple teams and programs
- Collect and interpret data from a variety of data acquisition systems
- Design and improve mechanical and electrical equipment and infrastructure
- Conduct failure analysis for design failures by providing detailed risks assessments, test summaries, teardown reports, pictures, and data logs
- Debug and troubleshoot test equipment
- Work directly with reliability and design engineers for test planning activities (test scheduling, prioritization, specifications, etc.)
What You’ll Bring
- Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
- Excellent grasp of engineering fundamentals and first principles
- Experience with High-voltage electrical systems (AC and DC) and CAN communications protocol
- Programming experience and an interest in scripting and automation, post-processing of large data sets (Python Preferred)
- Experience with instrumentation and data acquisition setup and configuration
- Strong sense of ownership, taking full accountability for assigned tasks, with the ability to adapt and change direction swiftly
- Collaborative mindset, recognizing the importance of teamwork within Tesla, and exhibiting a willingness to seek assistance and provide support when necessary
- Knowledge of basic mechanical and electrical tools (volt meters, oscilloscopes, power supplies)

Expected Compensation
-
$91,600 - $195,600/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
