What to Expect

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Mechanical Technician to support the deployment, operation, and maintenance of a large-scale fleet of Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) on a high-pace production floor. This hands-on mechanical role is critical to ensuring the reliability, uptime, and performance of robotic material transport systems used in advanced manufacturing environments. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, physical dexterity, and the ability to rapidly diagnose and resolve hardware-level issues with minimal supervision. You will serve as the first line of technical response for AMR fleet incidents, performing commissioning, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and continuous improvement activities to support uninterrupted production flow. This role operates at the intersection of mechanical systems, electromechanical integration, and real-time production support, requiring agility, precision, and a commitment to safety and efficiency. The ideal candidate will excel in a demanding and fast-paced environment where they will work as part of a strong, agile, and highly motivated team to accomplish some of the most ambitious projects being attempted in any industry today. A successful applicant will take pride in their thoroughness, analytical ability, organizational skills, and team mentality. The candidate will be able to think at a systems level about ambiguous problems and use strong logic to develop models that drive optimal factory design decisions.

What You’ll Do

  • Display a positive attitude and work ethic aligned with Tesla's mission, philosophy, and goals
  • Develop comprehensive material flow designs covering the entire Bill of Materials for new products and factory expansion
  • Design innovative material flow strategies for diverse materials across production lines
  • Implement material handling equipment, notably Autonomous Mobile Robots and Ergonomic Lifters
  • Improve and design predictive models for material handling labor, warehouse space, and equipment needs
  • Conduct capacity planning calculations to ensure accurate resource and equipment allocation
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Packaging Engineering, Manufacturing to implement optimal material flow strategies
  • Challenge assumptions in manufacturing design and base recommendations on a first-principles approach
  • Work with Manufacturing and Factory Design teams to create detailed material flow lineside layouts
  • Develop cost-effective, sustainable packaging and part presentation solutions for automated and manual handling

What You’ll Bring

  • 1+ years of experience in industrial, manufacturing, or mechanical engineering, with a focus on material flow, supply chain, or process improvement (internships considered)

  • Demonstrated leadership driving projects with diverse teams in high-volume manufacturing environments

  • Extensive analytical skills for performing detailed data analysis and summarizing results for key stakeholders

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficiency in Excel (VBA preferred) and experience with data visualization/analysis tools like Tableau or SQL

  • Experience with layout design in AutoCAD, including facility layouts and material flow equipment

  • Experience in material handling equipment design/implementation, including automated systems

  • Knowledge of supply chain planning, warehouse design concepts, and working with Packaging Engineering teams for optimized solutions
