About the Position As a Senior Technical Writer at Xylem, you will be part of the Global Technical Communication Center of Excellence, responsible for developing world-class customer documentation (Hardware/Software). You will author and manage content within a Component Content Management System (CCMS), collaborating closely with Project Coordinators and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) globally. Your work will support customers of Xylem products and systems through clear, accurate, and user-focused documentation such as Installation and Operation Instructions, Service Manuals, and other technical publications. As you grow in this role, you will have opportunities to contribute to continuous improvement projects, process optimization, and training initiatives within Xylem’s documentation ecosystem. About the Technical Communication Center of Excellence A global team of technical information specialists responsible for developing customer product information across Xylem’s product portfolio. The team focuses on intelligent content reuse using XML-based technologies, ensuring all publications are customer-centric, reusable, and globally consistent across multiple outputs, channels, and languages. Prominent collaterals include Installation and Operation Instructions, Datasheets, Quick Guides, UI Guides, and UX Guides, Technical specifications etc. The team consists of a Content Development (Production) Team, a Localization Team, and a Documentation Systems Team. About the Team in Bengaluru & Chennai (GCC) The Global Capability Center (GCC) in Bengaluru & Chennai serves as a shared service; resources supporting Xylem’s global product portfolio — including pumps, turbines, monitoring and control systems, and water analysis equipment. The team contributes to product design, development, testing, and technical documentation to deliver innovative and reliable water technology solutions. Responsibilities Content Development Develop reusable, structured technical content aligned with Xylem’s authoring guidelines, information model, and style guide. Conduct task analysis (TA) and prepare annotated topic lists (ATL). Create and maintain Topics, Chaptermaps, Bookmaps, and metadata within the CCMS. Produce and maintain illustrations, graphics, and photo-realistic renderings. Ensure the completion of review cycle and software-assisted checks for grammar, style, and terminology. Initiate translation requests and coordinate translation reviews. Communicate release updates to stakeholders via designated channels. Contribute to the development of the CCMS structure, templates, and information model. Participate in initiatives to enhance documentation quality, workflow efficiency, and content governance. Required Qualifications Education Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electronics, Aeronautical, Computer Science, or equivalent field). Experience 4–6 years of professional experience as a Technical Writer (Senior level) in an international, English-language environment. Proven expertise in DITA XML authoring and single-sourcing practices. Basic experience creating technical illustrations in vector or raster formats. Skills and Competencies Core Skills Excellent command of written and spoken English. Strong analytical, organizational, and documentation skills. Detail-oriented, structured, and dependable on meeting deadlines. Effective communicator with global, cross-functional teams. Familiarity with Simplified Technical English (STE) and style guides such as the Microsoft or Chicago Manual of Style. Understanding of DDLC, SDLC, and Agile workflows. Knowledge of single sourcing, metadata management, and conditional profiling. Technical Skills Proficiency in DITA XML and CCMS platforms such as Astoria On-Demand or AEM. Skilled in XML editors such as Oxygen XML Editor or Arbortext Editor. Experience with terminology and content quality tools such as Acrolinx. Proficiency with illustration tools (Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Creo Illustrate, Keyshot). Experience with collaboration tools like JIRA and Confluence. Understanding of content publishing pipelines and localization workflows. Working knowledge of XML-based formats and related technologies (XQuery, metadata tagging). Interest in GenAI and automation using Python or similar programming languages is desirable. Assessment Process Candidates will complete a writing and structuring test to demonstrate technical English and content organization skills.
