Position Summary... What you'll do... About Team: The Health & Wellness Engineering team at Walmart is on a mission to make healthcare more accessible, affordable, and convenient for millions of customers across the US. We build the technology that powers Walmart's pharmacy, specialty pharmacy, and wellness platforms spanning prescription management, clinical workflows, patient-facing digital experiences, and health program delivery. Our systems process millions of prescriptions annually and connect patients, pharmacists, prescribers, and payers in real time. The team operates at the intersection of technology and healthcare, building platforms that have a direct, measurable impact on patient outcomes and community health. What you'll do: As a Software Engineer III for Walmart Health & Wellness, you'll have the opportunity to: Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and patient-facing applications that power Walmart's pharmacy and health platforms Collaborate with product managers, clinical stakeholders, and cross-functional engineering teams to translate healthcare requirements into reliable, compliant software solutions Build and maintain secure, HIPAA-compliant systems that handle sensitive patient health information (ePHI) with the highest standards of data privacy and integrity Participate in design and architecture reviews to ensure systems meet performance, scalability, fault tolerance, and regulatory compliance requirements Develop integrations with third-party healthcare systems Write well-tested, production-grade code; contribute to CI/CD pipelines and champion engineering best practices including code reviews, automated testing, and observability Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues quickly to ensure high availability of systems that patients and pharmacists depend on daily Adhere to Company policies, procedures, mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity What you'll bring: 3–5 years of professional software engineering experience with a strong full-stack background Backend: Java & Spring Boot — Production-grade REST APIs, Spring MVC, DI, JPA/Hibernate, JUnit 5 + Mockito, Maven/Gradle Frontend: React & TypeScript — Functional components, Hooks (useState, useEffect, useMemo, etc.), React Router, TypeScript (interfaces, generics, enums) State Management & UI — Redux / Redux Toolkit or Zustand; CSS Modules, styled-components, or Tailwind CSS; React Hooks/ Formik REST API Design — Versioning, status codes, error contracts; Axios/Fetch integration with async state handling Database — SQL (joins, aggregations, window functions), PostgreSQL/MySQL, ACID transactions, indexing, query optimization DevOps Basics — Docker, CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins / GitHub Actions / Concord), Linux/CLI proficiency Engineering Fundamentals — OOP, SOLID, DSA, Git branching strategies, unit & integration testing Soft Skills — Strong ownership, clear communication, collaborative, active code-review participant About Walmart Global Tech Imagine working in an environment where one line of code can make life easier for hundreds of millions of people.
