SENIOR, SOFTWARE ENGINEER

Position Summary... As a Senior Software Engineer in the Cloud and Data Foundations organization in Walmart, you will play a pivotal role in owning, designing, building, and maintaining high-quality software solutions in the messaging engineering domain. We are seeking engineers who combine engineering excellence in fleet management, automating operational workflows, with a collaborative mindset and a passion for customer-centric problem solving. You will work closely with cross-functional partners to deliver robust, scalable, performant and maintainable solutions for the cloud and data foundations organization that power one of the world’s largest retail platforms.

What you'll do... About the team This Position is for Intelligent sync platform under Messaging and Streaming pillar part of Data services business with-in GTP org. Intelligent Sync (IS) is Walmart’s platform for on-demand, selective, and asynchronous movement of data among producers, consumers, and data stores. IS enables unified dynamic views over heterogeneous data sources and efficiently materializes those views across technologies, clouds, and geographies.

What you’ll do

Design and build highly scalable distributed systems using Scala , Apache Spark Structured Streaming , Apache Flink , and Kafka . Develop new streaming connectors and enhance existing integrations for enterprise data platforms. Design fault-tolerant, low-latency data processing pipelines capable of handling large-scale production workloads. Drive architecture, design, implementation, and operational readiness of platform capabilities from concept to production. Improve platform scalability, reliability, observability, and cost efficiency through performance optimizations and architectural improvements. Diagnose complex production issues involving distributed systems, streaming workloads, checkpointing, backpressure, data skew, and infrastructure dependencies. Build customer-facing platform capabilities that enable self-service onboarding, simplified configuration, and seamless deployment experiences. Develop reusable platform components, frameworks, and APIs that improve engineering productivity across multiple teams. Collaborate closely with product managers, architects, customer teams, and partner engineering organizations to deliver end-to-end solutions. Participate in design reviews, code reviews, operational excellence initiatives, and mentoring of junior engineers. Drive engineering best practices around testing, automation, deployment, monitoring, and production readiness. Take ownership of services running in production, including on-call support, incident response, root cause analysis, and continuous reliability improvements.

What you’ll bring

• 6+ years of software engineering experience building large-scale distributed systems. Strong programming experience in Scala (preferred) or Java. Experience with distributed stream processing frameworks such as: Apache Spark Structured Streaming Apache Flink Apache Kafka

• Strong understanding of distributed systems concepts including: fault tolerance checkpointing partitioning strategies backpressure state management high availability

Experience designing cloud-native microservices and REST APIs. Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud platforms. Experience building highly available production systems with strong observability using metrics, dashboards, logging, and alerting. Strong knowledge of software design patterns, concurrent programming, and scalable system design. Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and infrastructure automation. Strong debugging and performance tuning skills for distributed applications. Excellent communication skills with the ability to work across multiple engineering organizations and customer teams. Demonstrated ownership mindset with experience driving projects independently from design through production rollout.
