About the role
Position Summary... We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Software Engineer III – Fullstack to join our team. As a Software Engineer III, you will be responsible for problem solving, designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software applications. You will work closely with team members and upstream and downstream stakeholders to identify and prioritize project requirements and collaborate with other engineers to ensure the successful delivery of projects. What you'll do... About Team The Acquisition and Discovery Engineering team at Walmart is dedicated to providing a seamless and delightful shopping experience to millions of shoppers worldwide. As a software engineer in this team, you will have the opportunity to work on top of the funnel shopping experience – Content Management Service (CMS), orchestration layer, and tooling to manage page flows across mobile and web platforms. This collaborative team made up of Engineering, UX, Product Management, Business and Analytics is rapidly iterating on new products and site features at scale. We deliver high performing solutions on our next generation CMS and orchestration platform. Virtual Try-On, Gen AI integration, personalized complete-the-look, Video shopping, etc. are just a few examples of the features developed by this team in collaboration with many other teams. Continuous experimentation, innovation and feedback by millions of customers makes this work even more exciting! What You'll Do As a Software Engineer III, you will contribute to the development of world-class software and service applications that power Walmart's e-commerce experience. You will: Perform low-level design and build scalable, high-performance backend services and APIs using Java, Node.js, Rust, or Go, following modern design patterns. Collaborate with product managers, designers, and frontend engineers to deliver seamless, secure, and intuitive web experiences. Drive low-level technical excellence through thorough code reviews and design sessions. Own end-to-end feature delivery — from ideation and prototyping to deployment and production monitoring. Optimize application performance, scalability, and reliability using profiling tools and observability platforms. Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues leveraging observability platforms like OpenObserve. Design and implement modular, microservices-based architectures that integrate with GraphQL APIs. Contribute to frontend components (React, Next.js) as needed to support end-to-end feature ownership. Implement and maintain automation testing frameworks for unit, functional, and end-to-end (E2E) testing to ensure high-quality releases. Evaluate and integrate third-party SDKs and APIs to enhance web functionality and customer engagement. Champion continuous improvement in development processes, tools, and technologies. Stay current with Java, Node.js, Rust, Go, and GraphQL trends, and maintain working knowledge of React, Next.js, Jest, and Redux. Maintain CI/CD pipeline knowledge to support reliable, automated releases. Leverage AI-powered development tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor, Copilot) to improve engineering efficiency and code quality. What You'll Bring Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent. 3+ years of professional backend development experience, with a strong portfolio of e-commerce applications. Deep expertise in at least one of Java, Node.js, Rust, or Go, with strong system design and distributed systems fundamentals. Working/basic knowledge of frontend technologies such as React, Next.js, and related JavaScript/TypeScript ecosystems. Proven hands-on experience working on complex, modular, and testable backend/full-stack applications. Strong understanding of GraphQL, RESTful APIs, and asynchronous programming. Experience working with microservices architecture and distributed systems. Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and release management. Proficiency in troubleshooting and performance optimization using tools like OpenObserve, profilers, and other monitoring/observability tools. Solid experience in automation testing, including writing and maintaining unit, functional, and E2E test suites. Familiarity with analytics, A/B testing, and personalization strategies. Strong problem-solving skills and clear communication abilities. A customer-first mindset and a drive to deliver high-quality, impactful solutions at scale.
