Job Description

Senior Mechanical Engineer – Liquid Cooling (DCD)

Short Summary

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with strong experience in mechanical product development for thermal or fluid-based systems. The role focuses on the design, validation, and technical leadership of Rear Door Heat Exchangers or Coolant Distribution Units, supporting both new product introduction and customer-specific projects. It combines engineering ownership with collaboration across global teams and suppliers.

Job Summary

The Senior Mechanical Engineer leads mechanical design and development activities for Vertiv’s liquid cooling portfolio. The role includes full lifecycle responsibility for subsystems and modules within Rear Door Heat Exchangers and CDUs, from concept through production launch.

You will work closely with thermal, electrical, and controls engineering teams, as well as operations, supply chain, and test groups, to ensure designs meet performance, cost, and quality targets. This position is ideal for engineers who take initiative, enjoy mentoring others, and thrive in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of complex mechanical assemblies such as manifolds, enclosures, and heat exchanger modules.
  • Translate customer and performance requirements into manufacturable product designs.
  • Plan and support design validation activities including prototype builds and DVT testing.
  • Manage design documentation, BOMs, and engineering changes in PLM systems.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to refine designs and achieve cost, quality, and schedule goals.
  • Review test data and lead problem-solving during development and sustaining phases.
  • Drive standardization, reuse, and continuous improvement across programs.
  • Coordinate globally to maintain consistency in design practices.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to other engineers.

Skills and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 7–10 years of experience in product development and mechanical system design.
  • Strong understanding of thermal and fluid systems.
  • Proficiency in PTC Creo and PLM systems such as Oracle PD Cloud or Windchill.
  • Experience in DVT testing, design validation, and field issue resolution.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as welding, brazing, and sheet metal fabrication.
  • Ability to lead projects and communicate effectively across functions and regions.

Preferred

  • Background in HVAC, hydronic, or data center cooling products.
  • Experience with CFD, FEA, or reliability analysis.
  • Familiarity with UL, CE, or ASME standards.
  • Experience with supplier collaboration and design-for-cost programs.

What We Value

  • We value diverse experiences, curiosity, and teamwork. You don’t need to meet every listed qualification—if you bring technical depth, initiative, and a passion for product innovation, we would love to hear from you.
