Build your Career at Tesla

Sr. Software Engineer, Quality Engineering, Energy
| Job Category | Manufacturing | | Location | Brookshire, Texas | | Req. ID | 276319 | | Job Type | Full-time |
What to Expect
Tesla's Energy organization is scaling the future of sustainable power with Megapack, our utility-scale battery storage product built at Megafactory in Texas. The Quality Engineering team is standing up the next generation of real-time quality systems that detect, act on, and prevent defects the moment they occur on the production line. In this role, you will spearhead the software development that powers real-time quality at Megafactory — architecting event-driven data streams, real-time action engines, and the platforms that turn manufacturing and test data into immediate quality decisions. This is a pivotal, ground-floor role: you will lay the software foundation, patterns, and standards that future system teams will scale across Tesla Energy's growing global footprint.
What You’ll Do
- Design, build, and operate event-driven data streaming pipelines that ingest high-volume manufacturing, equipment, and test data in real time
- Develop real-time action systems that trigger automated quality actions
- Work with data engineers to architect scalable services and data stores to capture, process, and serve quality data with low latency and high reliability
- Deploy and manage containerized microservices on Kubernetes, ensuring high availability, observability, and horizontal scalability of quality-critical systems
- Own the full software development lifecycle with robust CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, code reviews, and design documentation
- Prepare and present system designs for Architecture Review Board approval, ensuring solutions meet Tesla's standards for security, scalability, and maintainability before production rollout
- Partner with quality, manufacturing, controls, and data engineers to translate quality requirements into production-grade real-time software
- Establish reusable frameworks, coding standards, and architectural patterns that enable future system teams to scale real-time quality software across Tesla Energy
What You’ll Bring
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience
- 4+ years of professional software development experience, including delivering production-grade real-time or event-driven systems
- Expert proficiency in Python for building reliable, scalable back-end services and APIs
- Hands-on experience with data event streaming technologies such as Kafka (or equivalent) for real-time pipelines
- Strong database skills across SQL and NoSQL (e.g., MySQL, Microsoft SQL, ClickHouse)
- Production experience with Docker and Kubernetes for container orchestration and deployment
- Experience with CI/CD tooling and DevOps practices (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins)
- Experience presenting architecture and design proposals for review board approval and driving technical decisions across cross-functional teams
- Strong ownership, clear communication, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-impact manufacturing environment
