About the role
MerQube is an innovative fintech firm, leading the development of cutting-edge technology for indexing and rules-based investing. MerQube offers design and calculation solutions for complex rules-based strategies. Launched in 2019 in New York and San Francisco by a team of index industry veterans and technology experts, MerQube was created to provide a technology focused alternative.
MerQube designs and calculates a wide variety of indices, ranging from thematic to ESG, QIS and delta one, while covering multi-asset, equities, futures as well as options. Leveraging cloud-based architecture and today's most advanced index-tracking technology, MerQube's platform enables its clients to bring ideas to market quickly and efficiently.
Position Overview:
We are looking for a Platform Support Engineer to help maintain and improve the reliability of MerQube’s production systems.
In this role, you will investigate technical issues, debug backend services and data pipelines, and work closely with engineers across the organization to diagnose and resolve system problems. You will gain deep visibility into MerQube’s platform and play an important role in ensuring that our systems operate reliably for internal teams.
This position is ideal for engineers who enjoy problem solving, debugging complex systems, and learning how large-scale platforms operate. Support Engineers work across multiple parts of the system, making this role a great opportunity to develop a broad understanding of backend architecture, data pipelines, and financial data processing.
You will also help identify recurring issues and collaborate with the broader engineering team to improve system reliability and reduce operational friction.
Key Responsiblities:
• Investigate and diagnose production issues, bugs, and system failures
• Work closely with internal engineering teams to resolve technical issues impacting the platform
• Debug backend services, APIs, and distributed systems
• Troubleshoot issues in data ingestion pipelines, ETL workflows, and computation processes
• Perform root cause analysis (RCA) on production incidents
• Identify recurring operational issues and propose improvements to increase system reliability
• Collaborate with engineers to implement fixes and improve system stability
• Use logs, monitoring tools, and debugging techniques to analyze system behavior
• Document troubleshooting processes and common operational workflows
• Develop a broad understanding of MerQube’s systems and financial data infrastructure
On-Call Responsibilities:
The role includes participation in a light on-call rotation focused on responding to critical production incidents.
Most work occurs during regular business hours supporting internal teams. During on-call periods, engineers ensure that high-priority incidents (P1 issues) are addressed in a timely manner by either resolving the issue directly or coordinating with the appropriate engineering teams.
The on-call rotation is designed to provide coverage for critical incidents and is not intended to require continuous off-hours work.
