What We Do
At Goldman Sachs, our Engineers don’t just make things – we make things possible. Change the world by connecting people and capital with ideas. Solve the most challenging and pressing engineering problems for our clients. Join our engineering teams that build massively scalable software and systems, architect low latency infrastructure solutions, proactively guard against cyber threats, and leverage machine learning alongside financial engineering to continuously turn data into action. Create new businesses, transform finance, and explore a world of opportunity at the speed of markets.
If you’re passionate about transforming how a global firm understands, governs, and activates its data, this role puts you right at the center of that mission. As a Data Governance Specialist, you won’t just execute processes — you’ll help shape the future of data across the firm, driving initiatives that directly influence business decisions, client experiences, regulatory outcomes, and strategic innovation.
Who We Are
The Data Governance Office is a global, firmwide organization dedicated to ensuring that data is trusted, well managed and strategically leveraged. We collaborate closely with divisional stakeholders to provide transparency into how data flows through the firm — from creation to transformation to consumption — and how it can be strengthened at every stage through data quality controls. Our work enables the business to reduce duplication, respond faster to opportunities, elevate client experiences, and meet rapidly evolving regulatory expectations.
Who We Look For
Goldman Sachs Engineers are innovators and problem-solvers, building solutions in risk management, big data, mobile and more. We look for creative collaborators who evolve, adapt to change and thrive in a fast-paced global environment. The firm is investing significantly to enhance data quality across the firm, to enable increased data commercialization, improve client experience, and ensure high quality of data sent to other external and internal parties.
Your Impact
As a member of the team, you will be a key driver of our data quality assurance program, influencing senior stakeholders and shaping data quality strategies as part of the team’s initiatives. You will deliver real impact by:
- Championing firmwide data governance, partnering with Divisional Data Offices to promote the adoption of policies and standards
- Leading transformative work on end-to-end data testing for key deliverables
- Innovating with AI and automation to scale data testing capabilities and unlock new efficiencies
- Defining and implementing end-to-end data testing metrics reporting
- Building consensus across global teams, aligning with stakeholders on data quality priorities
- Working with divisions to monitor progress, ensuring that program goals are delivered
How You Will Fulfill Your Potential
You won’t just execute — you’ll shape the future of how the firm governs its data. You will:
- Drive the execution of the data governance framework, policies, standards, and processes
- Guide teams on implementing the governance requirements and best practices
- Lead working groups to improve the end-to-end data testing processes
- Execute end-to-end testing to assess data accuracy
- Create reference materials that document the testing activities
- Provide analytics that enable data consumers and producers to drive remediation efforts
- Communicate progress to senior stakeholders and within the team
- Strengthen your understanding of data and the underlying businesses that use it
Basic Requirements

- Proficient in executing data queries and performing data analysis
- Communicate with influence – from working groups to senior stakeholders
- Demonstrate effective analytical, critical thinking, be detail-oriented and have excellent organizational skills
- Build strong relationships, collaborate across functions, and drive change
- Be extremely proactive and work well in a collaborative environment, demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in data / transaction testing, governance, controls testing, or auditing
- Familiarity with financial regulatory reporting
