Software Team Lead - Onsite Position

We’re looking for highly motivated Software Team Lead to join our team in Ottawa, ON. You will lead a dynamic group of Software Developers responsible for the development of new products and the support of the existing product lines . You must be resourceful and able to overcome new challenges using insightful design and engineering skills coupled with innovative approaches. You are responsible for planning, overseeing, and contributing to software development related activities, ensuring business and customer objectives are accomplished.

You will also work closely with other cross-functional team members in Engineering, Customer Support and Product Management. You coach, mentor, guide, and help nurture a team of software developers to realize their full potential and adopt our culture of quality and customer satisfaction.

Location: Ottawa, ON

Salary: $90,300 - $140,000 plus bonus opportunity

Your Challenge: Engineer, Design, Develop and Test new embedded products at the forefront of technology

Ensure on-time delivery of software deliverables for complex product developments

Support and enhance existing embedded software

Provide task breakdowns and accurate estimates for project planning

Apply established development processes and assist in process improvement

Analyze requirements, research and identify solutions and develop the design and conduct architecture, design and code reviews

Provide input to architecture and design reviews

Keep current with embedded software trends and share knowledge

Reading and understanding IC datasheets, register descriptions and board schematics

Participate in maintaining a positive and productive atmosphere within the team

Responsible for the career development, training and performance evaluations of assigned staff

What You Bring:

People & Technical Leadership Ability to build, motivate, and retain high-performing teams

Track record of successfully delivering on schedule and within budget

Experience evaluating technical performance, conducting talent reviews, and recommending training/development plans

Outstanding verbal and written communication skills; able to translate complex technical topics for diverse audiences

Results-oriented leader who holds self and team accountable, champions process improvement, and drives customer satisfaction

Thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment while managing competing priorities and shifting requirements

Technical Depth Strong understanding of software design and engineering principles and application to real world use

Experience working with a multi-disciplined team

Knowledge of software engineering best practices and standards

Focus on writing supportable, portable code

Development of embedded firmware solutions for Intel, Power Architecture and Arm processors

Proficient using the high-level programming language such as C to develop device drivers and solve complex device integration problems

Familiarity with IC datasheets, register descriptions and board schematics

Strong troubleshooting, problem solving, and software debugging skills

Hands-On Experience Das U-Boot firmware development for ARM and Power Architecture

UEFI firmware development for Intel

Slim Bootloader (SBL) development for Intel

Bare metal programing and Board bring-up

Familiarity with the following OS architectures; Linux, VxWorks, and Windows

Software configuration management tools such as GIT and Bitbucket

Software task and defect tracking tools such as JIRA

Software test tools and methodologies as well as scripting tools and languages such as Python

Familiarity with any of the following technologies: PCIe, Ethernet, MDIO, I2C, SPI, TPM, non-volatile memories, SATA, USB, eMMC, NVMe

Use of hardware debugging tools, such as Digital Analyzers, Oscilloscopes, and DMMs

Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in engineering or computer science (or equivalent)

10+ years of experience in software development, with at least 3 years in a technical leadership role
