Job Description We are looking for a Sr. Web Application Developer to support the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of a new WordPress-based website for our client. This position will be a 5-month contract and hybrid in Philadelphia, PA . What You'll Do Build new WordPress site functionality using WordPress core, Elementor, and third-party plugins

Develop WordPress themes and plugins utilizing PHP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript

Create reusable, testable, and efficient code that supports long-term maintainability

Collaborate with the UX/UI Content Manager to ensure seamless front-end and back-end functionality

Work closely with cross-functional teams to align deliverables with design, content, branding, and user experience standards

Develop website features including: Search functionality

File sharing capabilities

Mobile-responsive browsing

Google Analytics integration

Rotating homepage banner functionality

Support content migration efforts from existing sites

Ensure adherence to the Managed WordPress Guidelines

Implement accessibility best practices and maintain WCAG AA compliance standards

Address bug fixes and provide ongoing website enhancements

Maintain WordPress core, themes, and plugins to ensure security and stability

Collaborate with non-technical stakeholders to gather requirements and translate business needs into technical solutions

Support post-launch development activities and enhancements following UX testing

Act as liaison between WP Engine and internal stakeholders regarding technical support and maintenance

Provide monthly maintenance including monitoring, minor updates, and technical support

What You'll Need

  • Required: Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences

  • Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management skills

  • Demonstrated curiosity, problem-solving, and continuous learning mindset

  • Three (3) or more years of experience in systems analysis, programming, and software design

  • Bachelor's degree in mathematics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent work experience and training

  • Extensive coding experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP

  • Experience developing WordPress themes and plugins

  • Familiarity with accessibility principles and WCAG standards

  • Understanding of web design principles and front-end troubleshooting

  • Experience using translation frameworks

  • Knowledge of performance optimization, scalability, security, and software testing

  • Familiarity with software design and architectural patterns

  • Experience developing mobile-responsive websites

  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional and non-technical teams

  • Strong attention to detail and code maintainability

  • Preferred: Experience working within government or public sector environments

  • Compassionate approach to problem-solving and user-centered design

  • Self-directed with strong time management and prioritization skills

  • Systems-thinking mindset with the ability to understand broader project impacts

  • Experience supporting public-facing websites with accessibility requirements

  • Familiarity with WP Engine hosting environments

  • Experience working with content migration projects

  • Knowledge of Google Analytics implementation and reporting

  • Physical Demands Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state, and local standards

Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including location, experience, and education. Benefit packages include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as 401k retirement account access.
