Mechatronics Research Engineer - Special Projects (Robotics)

We are seeking research scientists and engineers with strong backgrounds across mechatronics, controls, haptics, robotics, simulation, and machine learning to drive breakthrough innovations in intelligent robotic systems. This position requires a hands-on approach, integrating software and hardware solutions to push the boundaries of perception, control, and intelligence. You will work alongside world-class researchers and engineers, contributing to technologies that power the Apple ecosystem.

Develop and evaluate novel sensing, actuation, and control technologies for robotic systems.

Design, prototype, and validate systems.
-
Develop algorithms for estimation, control, and systems optimization.
-
Create experimental platforms, test methods, and performance benchmarks.
-
Build simulation models to support system design and validation.
-
Integrate hardware, software, and controls into functional prototypes.
-
Collaborate across disciplines to advance human-machine interaction capabilities.
-
3+ years of relevant experience developing electromechanical, robotic, tactile, or haptic systems.

Experience with sensing, actuation, controls, or system integration in robotics.

Experience designing and executing experimental validation activities.

Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, or a related field.

Advanced degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, Controls, or a related field.

Experience with tactile sensing or haptics in robotic systems.
-
Experience with tactile sensor design, characterization, or signal processing.

Experience with a wide range of actuation technologies.

Experience bringing complex hardware-software systems from prototype to production.
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $150,400 and $277,600, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple’s discretionary employee stock programs.
