Apple is where individual imaginations gather together, committing to the values that lead to great work. Every new product we build, service we create, or Apple Store experience we deliver is the result of us making each other’s ideas stronger. As part of our Battery Engineering group, you will craft creative battery solutions that deliver more energy in smaller spaces than ever before. Join us, and you’ll help innovate new battery technologies that continually outperform previous iterations.

We are looking for a highly technical, self-driven Hardware Validation Engineering Lead with a strong Electrical Engineering (EE) background. In this role, you will serve as the regional technical authority for Battery Management Unit (BMU) and battery pack qualification. You will bridge the gap between deep EE hardware debugging and strategic vendor management, ensuring our products meet the highest safety and performance standards.

This is a dynamic “player-coach” role within our Battery Qualification team. You will be the primary technical owner of the regional battery lab, leading a team while collaborating closely with US-based Qualification Engineers.

Your short-to-mid-term focus will be highly technical and hands-on: designing Design of Experiments (DOEs), leading complex EE bench testing, and managing in-region BMU and pack vendors. Long-term, your mission is strategic: you will transition the workflow to oversee and audit vendor testing capabilities, driving continuous improvement in their quality and relying on them as mature testing partners. Travel to vendor sites in China (approx. 2-3 times per year, up to 2 weeks per trip) is required.

  • Technical Leadership: Conduct deep-dive reviews of BMU schematics and PCB layouts to drive Design for Testability (DFT). Lead component and circuit level Root Cause Analysis (RCA) when complex hardware failures escalate from the testing team or vendors.

  • Team & Lab Management: Manage and grow a team of battery test engineers. Define strategic KPIs for lab operations, responsible for day-to-day battery pack and BMU level validation.

  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Champion a data-driven engineering culture. Synthesize complex test data generated by the lab and vendors to justify critical technical decisions to US-based Qualification/Design teams and push back on vendor discrepancies.

  • Vendor Strategy & Oversight: Act as the primary regional interface for BMU and Battery Pack vendors. Design DOEs, transfer Apple’s rigorous test methods to vendors, and systematically audit their testing quality.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with US-based Qualification Engineers to understand design intent, develop validation platforms, and deliver highly accurate test results and engineering insights.

  • Process Optimization: Drive the strategic shift from internal lab execution to robust vendor-led testing by improving vendor capabilities and data reporting standards.

  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or a related highly technical field.

  • 8+ years of hands-on EE development, hardware design, or hardware validation experience (Experience with power electronics, schematics, PCB layout, and component-level debugging is mandatory).

  • 2+ years of experience in a leadership role, managing engineering teams, contractors, or external hardware vendors.

  • Strong hands-on experience with EE bench test equipment (oscilloscopes, electronic loads, DAQ, power supplies, meters).

  • Fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese (written and verbal) for global cross-functional communication.

  • Direct experience with Battery Management Units (BMU), battery pack testing, or power protection circuit design (Note: Strong EE fundamentals can substitute for direct battery experience).

  • Proven track record of managing contract manufacturers (CMs) or hardware vendors in the Greater China region.

  • Familiar with scripting languages (Python, C, C++) for test automation, data acquisition, and instrumentation control

  • Eagerness to transition from hands-on execution to strategic vendor quality oversight.
